Peek-a-tures!

So as stated, I got to it this weekend. Got about 20-25 stealers painted up with at least 2 colors on them, and I also decided to take some pics of my Trygon since I had not posted them yet. I have my Swarmlord done, but I'm going to redo him since I don't like the completely green bone swords. Without further ado, some genestealer pics!

Group pic, yes I realized I missed ones head carapace! :(

On the table..

Been awhile, I've been taken aback by other things and I've enjoyed playing some Red Dead Redemption on PS3 lately, as well as playing other games that I've put off to work on my Tyranids. Well I'm back in action, after using some Castrol Super Clean to strip a bad primer job off some genestealers, I finally got back around to re-primering them. With a games day coming up, I'm hoping to get some painting done and have a full 40 stealers primered and at least 1 or 2 colors on them.

Also on the table is Death Leaper, after having him only primed, I'm going to finally start adding color to him. I also need to touch up some other models, and finish them out as well. Looking forward to the next games day.

The fall of the Tyranids...

The Tyranid FAQ got released today, and it's pretty much full of fail. Some things I didn't really care about as I didn't use them. Some of them ticked me off because they pretty much re-wrote half the codex (exaggeration I know, but that's what it feels like). I will still play my nids because I love playing them, the only changes really only affected one unit that I use, and from what I can tell, the unit failed simply due to poorly written rules from the get go. I will still use the Doom, and I plan on using him as a road bump just as I have been doing here lately. He serves his purpose perfectly in that regard, and now I just have to be more strategic in where I place him. Ah, who knows, it might be time to dust off those necrons sooner than I anticipated!

New Nids!

A brief update on the status of the list I'm taking to Hobby Town for a doubles tournament at the end of June. I have all of my troops primered and will begin painting them soon. I ran into a little snag with my primer spray though, I've been using a wal-mart brand spray for quite some time now and suddenly the last two cans that I purchased just aren't the same quality. So I have to do some touch up on quite a few stealers. Instead I purchased some Armory White primer from Hobby Town in order to see how that's going to work. Here's a few of the models I've recently built.

I purchased the collector model from Games Workshop of Death Leaper. I really like how this model is done, and how it differes from the standard Lictor models.

It's gonna be cool seeing this guy painted up.

The Swarmlord from the right side. In about a week, his bonesabers will look completely different, as I ordered them from Jon Paulson who does some resin sculpting.

I'm definitely ready to get this guy looking good and field him! He's pretty nasty.

In the works...

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I've been unmotivated to paint, much less to blog. Work is picking up in busy-ness now and I find myself having less and less free time during the day. That's a good thing right? With an impending doubles tournament on the horizon I have been itching to get my army painted in order to field an entire force on the board, painted and looking nice. Without further ado, I will let you in on my latest investment. Necrons! As soon as I have 1500 points of tyranids painted, I will switch over to my Necrons, so look for those to come around soon.

Flight of the Valkyrie

I still have tons of work to do on this, but I have it together. The top comes off and I'm going to detail the inside. I also have some finishing pieces to glue on, the cockpit to finish and some weapons to magnetize under the wings.  Really looking forward to finishing this out for Travis, and I think I have a pretty decent start. Enjoy!

Deamon Prince has arrived

I had a friend paint this up for me, since I paid a pretty penny for it, I was scared to do it myself since I only have a few miniatures under my belt. He did an awesome job on this miniature and an even more awesome job on the basing of the mini. Thanks Bradford for painting this guy up for me! Awesome job!

You can view the whole album here.

Zoanthrope

Nearly done with this mamma jamma. I have some more detail work on the brain area to do and some clean up on the chitin plating, but other than that he's mostly finished except for basing. Haven't decided what I want to do with that yet. Here's a snapshot of him, and you can view the full album of my nids here.

Painting incoming!

I have quite a few units built up and I'm probably going to be painting this Saturday. On the table to at least prime is the following:

  • 46 Genestealers
  • 50 Termagants
  • 16 Hormagants
  • 3 Broodlords
  • 2 Lictors
  • 2 Zoanthropes
  • 1 Hive Tyrant
I have some Carnifexs that I plan to convert into Tervigons here pretty soon.

I've attempted to blog in the past, so we'll see how well this one goes. I hope to update at least on a weekly basis with things going on in my efforts to finish out my two armies. Right now I plan on focusing primarily on my Tyranid army and hope to finish it in the next few months, as long as my wife doesn't bite my head off for spending to much time painting and modeling. Below are a few pics of my basic scheme for my genestealers. I have found that a mix of clear gloss and red food color is a great way to create a juicy looking red. I have quite a few of these to build up and paint. Future plans include a red back bone with highlights on the details to really make these models pop on the table. I'm really looking forward to painting these models as they look amazing.
